Why Likes Are Not Enough

• Written by Kate Shove

In a bright salon setting, a stylist holds a device showing many likes and hearts for a social post, while nearby icons or visuals illustrate real outcomes like appointments or bookings.

Why Likes Are Not Enough

It feels good to see likes on your posts. They are a sign that people noticed you and enjoyed your content. But likes alone are not enough to grow your salon.

Likes are what we call vanity metrics. They look impressive, but they do not always lead to bookings. Someone might like your post because the photo looks nice, but that does not mean they are thinking of booking a colour appointment.

The problem with focusing only on likes is that you may ignore more meaningful signs of success. Comments, saves, shares, and enquiries are all stronger indicators that your content is making a real impact. A single client message asking about your services is more valuable than 50 likes.

That does not mean likes are useless. They are a helpful signal that your content is reaching people. But they should not be your only focus. The goal is to turn attention into action.

When you shift your focus from likes to results, your approach changes. You start creating posts with calls to action, sharing client testimonials, and reminding people to book. These are the posts that fill your chairs, even if they get fewer likes.

Three steps you can take now

  1. Stop judging your posts by likes alone.
  2. Pay closer attention to comments, saves, and messages.
  3. Create posts with clear calls to action that encourage bookings.

Likes are nice, but clients are better. Focus on what really grows your salon.
